Парламент Каталонії підтримав плани проведення у вересні наступного року референдуму про те, чи варто залишатися частиною Іспанії.

Рішення каталонських депутатів значною мірою суперечить рішенню, прийнятому в серпні Конституційним судом Іспанії, який скасував їхні вимоги щодо незалежності.

Прем'єр-міністр Іспанії Маріано Рахой неодноразово відмовився підтримати будь-які заходи, які могли б призвести до розколу країни.

Регіональний президент Каталонії Карлес П'юджмонт в сiчнi цього року обіцяв незалежність за 18 місяців. Також створюються державні структури, включаючи каталонський податковий орган, в рамках підготовки до можливого відокремлення Каталонії.

"До кінця червня 2017 року ми будемо мати державні структури i готові стати незалежною державою", - сказав П'юджмонт.

Як відомо, 9 листопада 2015 року парламент Каталонії ухвалив резолюцію про незалежність від Іспанії.

Уряд Іспанії відразу оскаржив це рішення, тому дія резолюції були призупинена з 11 листопада минулого року.

1 серпня 2016 року Конституційний суд Іспанії призупинив дію резолюції про незалежність Каталонії.
