Официальный представитель Кремля Дмитрий Песков поблагодарил американского сенатора Джин Шахин за популяризацию RT. Так он отреагировал на информацию о планах политика представить законопроект, дающий Минюсту США дополнительные полномочия для проведения расследования в отношении российского канала

«Мы признательны сенатору за популяризацию такого прекрасного информационного канала, как RT. Мы полагаем, что подобный вклад в дело популяризации RT позволит новым тысячам, и сотням тысяч, и даже миллионам зрителей ознакомиться с той альтернативной информацией, которую дает телеканал RT для мировой аудитории», — подчеркнул Песков.

О том, что Шахин намерена представить законопроект, направленный против RT, издание Politico сообщило 14 марта. Демократ от штата Нью-Гэмпшир полагает, что российский канал мог нарушить закон о регистрации иностранных агентов. Подготовленный сенатором документ стал ответом на доклад американских спецслужб о влиянии Москвы на выборы в США в 2016 году.

В январе этого года была опубликована рассекреченная версия доклада, подготовленного ЦРУ, ФБР и Агентством национальной безопасности (АНБ) США, в которой утверждается, что президент России Владимир Путин распорядился организовать кампанию с целью повлиять на политический процесс в США. В Кремле эти предположения отвергли и заявили, что обвинения в адрес Москвы напоминают охоту на ведьм.
