Президент Петро Порошенко підписав Указ «Про Раду з питань захисту професійної діяльності журналістів та свободи слова».

Рада створена з метою забезпечення реалізації конституційного права на свободу слова, налагодження ефективного механізму взаємодії державних органів та інститутів громадянського суспільства, зокрема засобів масової інформації, з питань запобігання перешкоджанню законній професійній діяльності журналістів.

Відповідно до затвердженого Положення, Рада є консультативно- дорадчим органом при Президентові України, основними завданнями якої є, зокрема, моніторинг ситуації (стану) забезпечення захисту професійної діяльності журналістів та свободи слова в Україні та напрацювання узгоджених пропозицій із визначення першочергових заходів щодо забезпечення захисту професійної діяльності журналістів та свободи слова у відповідності до європейських демократичних стандартів тощо.

Співголовами Ради призначено Заступника Глави Адміністрації Президента України Андрія Таранова та Прес-секретаря Глави держави Святослава Цеголка.

До складу Ради увійшли представники громадських об’єднань, які діють у сфері медіа, засобів масової інформації, а також Національної поліції, Генеральної прокуратури, Служби безпеки України, Національної ради з питань телебачення і радіомовлення та інших державних органів.
