Кандидат правящей коалиции Индии Рам Натх Ковинд одержал уверенную победу на выборах президента страны, сообщил ЦИК, передает Сегодня

По словам представителя ЦИК, кандидат от оппозиции — бывшая спикер нижней палаты парламента Мейра Кумар получила порядка одной трети голосов, тогда как Ковинд получил абсолютное большинство в две трети голосов.

"Поэтому, в соответствии с правилами акта о президентских выборах, я, Анут Мишра, объявляю, что Рам Натх Ковинд избран на пост президента Индии", — заявил Мишра, объявляя итоги подсчета в парламенте страны.

Ковинд, как и его оппонент Мейра Кумар, представляет общину далитов — касты неприкасаемых в Индии. Он стал вторым президентом Индии из этой касты после Кочерила Рамана Нараянана, который занимал пост президента в 1997-2002 годах.

В настоящее время президентом является Пранаб Кумар Мукерджи, которому в этом году исполняется 82 года.
