Голова комісії з держмови Латвії Андрій Вейсбергс зажадав від президента республіки Раймонда Вейоніса, щоб той говорив тільки латиською, передає Українські новини

"Думка старої і, думаю, нової комісії така сама - президенту слід було б з латвійськими масмедіа спілкуватися тільки латиською", - зазначив він.

При обранні Вейоніс заявляв, що продовжить розмовляти з пресою тією мовою, "якою до нього звертаються, - за умови, що він цю мову знає". І продовжував спілкуватися з російськомовними журналістами російською. Вейоніс пояснював, що вихований на казках Пушкіна, які йому на ніч читала його мама, і володіє російською як рідною.

Раймонд Вейоніс, який раніше обіймав пост міністра оборони Латвії, 3 червня був обраний президентом на чотирирічний термін.
