Один із членів виборчого штабу Дональда Трампа неодноразово намагався влаштувати зустріч з росіянами, включно з президентом Росії Володимиром Путіним.

Про це свідчить електронна переписка волонтера кампанії Джорджа Пападопулоса, яка потрапила у розпорядження Washington Post, повідомляє Європейська правда з посиланням на The Hill.

Отримані електронні листи є частиною 20 тисяч документів, які були передані Конгресу США, що розслідує можливе втручання Росії у президентські вибори та зв’язки команди Трампа з росіянами.

Джордж Пападопулос був волонтером кампанії Трампа з березня до вересня 2016 року. У квітні Пападопулос заявив тогочасному менеджеру кампанії Корі Левандовскі, що російський президент Володимир Путін хотів би "прийняти команду Трампа, коли на це буде правильний час".

Пападопулос спілкувався з представниками Російської ради з міжнародних справ, які дали зрозуміти, що МЗС РФ прихильно ставиться до можливої поїздки Трампа в Росію. Один зі співробітників Ради зазначив, що така ідея візиту була лише однією з можливих, а обговорення було неофіційним.

Декілька посадовців команди Трампа, у тому числі керівник кампанії Пол Манафорт, висловили занепокоєння з приводу запропонованих зустрічей. Манафорт передав записку одному з колег, у якій написав: "Нам потрібно, аби хтось повідомив, що Дональд Трамп не їздить у такі поїздки".

"Ми думали, що ми, очевидно, не повинні рухатись далі щодо будь-яких зустрічей з росіянами, доки нам не випала нагода поспілкуватись з нашими союзниками по НАТО", - прокоментував у березні імовірну зустріч з росіянами Сем Кловіс, співголова штабу Трампа.
