Даунінг-стріт вважає, що російські і китайські спецслужби використовували документи Едварда Сноудена, щоб вичислити британських і американських секретних агентів. Великобританія була вимушена відкликати своїх розвідників.

MI6 відкликала агентів із закордонних операцій, тому що російські спецслужби зламали зашифровані файли американського комп'ютерного аналітика Сноудена, йдеться в матеріалі видання.

Після того, як Сноуден оприлюднив секретні документи Агентства національної безпеки США, які показали, що спецслужби проводили масовий моніторинг телефонів та інтернет-трафіку громадян, він втік у Гонконг. Незабаром йому надала тимчасовий політичний притулок Росія, і в результаті Сноуден навіть отримав посаду у групі з технічної підтримки на одному з найбільших російських вебсайтів.

Sunday Times стверджує, що в результаті китайські і російські спецслужби отримали доступ до файлів. Міністерство внутрішніх справ і британська розвідка кажуть, що документи містили методику розвідки, а також інформацію, яка дозволила іноземним державам обчислити британських і американських шпигунів.

Вони заявили, що агенти повинні бути відкликані, а витік цієї інформації паралізував їх роботу з отримання життєво важливої інформації. Джерело додало, що вони не мають інформації про те, що хтось постраждав. Високопоставлене джерело в міністерстві внутрішніх справ також вважає, що Путін не дав би Сноудену притулок просто так.
