6 февраля 1952 года король Георг VI умер после продолжительной болезни и принцесса Елизавета в возрасте двадцати пяти лет сразу же взошла на трон. Она является старейшим британским монархом в истории и рекордсменом по времени нахождения на британском престоле.

Елизавета II происходит из Виндзорской династии. Является главой Британского Содружества наций и, помимо Великобритании, королевой пятнадцати независимых государств: Австралия, Антигуа и Барбуда, Багамские Острова, Барбадос, Белиз, Гренада, Канада, Новая Зеландия, Папуа — Новая Гвинея, Сент-Винсент и Гренадины, Сент-Китс и Невис, Сент-Люсия, Соломоновы Острова, Тувалу, Ямайка. Является также главой англиканской церкви и верховным главнокомандующим Вооружёнными силами Великобритании.

На опубликованном фото на королеве - набор ювелирных изделий с сапфирами, подаренный ей королем Георгом VI в качестве свадебного подарка в 1947 году.
