Американский сенатор-республиканец Джон Маккейн отказался от приглашения поехать наблюдателем на выборы в самопровозглашенную "Луганскую народную республику", сообщает ВВС

"Хотя я обычно не занимаюсь мониторингом на выборах в воображаемых странах, я признателен за это уникальное приглашение. Если так называемая "Луганская народная республика" заинтересована в демократических выборах, то я предлагаю ее приверженцам сложить оружие и принять участие в следующем раунде выборов на свободной и единой Украине", - говорится в заявлении Маккейна.

В понедельник глава самопровозглашенной ЛНР Игорь Плотницкий в ходе пресс-конференции попросил журналистов передать Маккейну приглашение приехать на восток Украины и понаблюдать за подготовкой и проведением местных выборов.

При этом Плотницкий охарактеризовал сенатора как "самого правдивого человека, демократа из демократов, который ездит по всему миру рассказывать правила, условия демократии".

Джон Маккейн ранее неоднократно призывал правительство США начать поставки "оборонительных вооружений" Киеву.

Местные выборы на Украине должны состояться 25 октября. На территории, контролируемой сторонниками самопровозглашенных республик, планируют провести свои выборы: в ДНР они назначены на 18 октября, в ЛНР – на 1 ноября.
