Германия готова будет решительно ответить Соединенным Штатам, если факт ведения Вашингтоном разведывательной деятельности против Берлина подтвердится, заявил президент Германии Йоахим Гаук, передает Интерфакс.

Если подтвердится, что США "давали такое задание одному из сотрудников нашей разведки, то действительно надо будет заявить: все, хватит!" - сказал он в интервью телеканалу ZDF.

Министр внутренних дел Германии Томас де Мезьер в интервью изданию Bild заявил: "Я надеюсь, что все сейчас окажут помощь, чтобы быстро прояснить вопрос с обвинениями (в шпионаже - ИФ), а также жду в кратчайшие сроки четких заявлений, в том числе и со стороны США".

Вместе с тем, бывший госсекретарь США Хиллари Клинтон, выступая в Берлине на презентации своих мемуаров, назвала разгоревшийся скандал "серьезной проблемой".

"Надо выяснить факты, и лишь потом действовать соответствующим образом. Надо также постараться соблюдать осторожность, чтобы не подорвать столь необходимое сотрудничество между нами", - сказала она.

Как сообщалось, контрразведка Германии разоблачила сотрудника германской разведслужбы BND, который шпионил в пользу США. Это вызвало острую негативную реакцию в Германии на фоне еще не забытого скандала с просушкой АНБ США телефонов германских политиков, включая канцлера Ангелы Меркель.
