У ході кампанії штаб Трампа уклав угоду з Twitter на рекламний супровід, зокрема, просування пов'язаних з республіканцем тем.

Крім того, як стверджують представники Дональда Трампа, Twitter повинен був розробити емодзі для популярного серед прихильників республіканця хештега #CrookedHillary (# ЖуліковатаяХілларі). Штаб пропонував зобразити цей хештег у вигляді мішка грошей на долоні або в вигляді біжить знову ж з мішком грошей.

 
Емодзі, які відмовилися ввести в Twitter

Однак за словами директора з реклами штабу Дональда Трампа Гері Кобі, в результаті Twitter (а саме Джек Дорсі особисто) відмовився зробити емодзі.

Тому голову Twitter не покликали на зустріч Дональда Трампа з представниками IT-компаній, яку організував один із засновників PayPal, а нині радник Трампа Пітер Тіль. На ній були присутні керівник SpaceX Ілон Маск, глава Amazon Джефф Безос, Тім Кук з Apple і інші.

Саме в Twitter Дональд Трамп був найбільш активний під час кампанії. Багато світових ЗМІ постійно посилалися на твіттер Трампа, а The New York Times проаналізувала всі твіти Трампа і зробила підбірку людей, компаній і країн, яких ображав майбутній президент.
