Компанія Twitter опублікувала звіт про роботу сервісу мікроблогів у другій половині 2016 року.
 

Згідно з даними компанії,  за цей період Twitter заблокувала понад 376 акаунтів через пропаганду тероризму. Таким чином, загальна кількість заблокованих екстремістських акаунтів становить 636,248, починаючи з серпня 2015 року, коли Twitter почав відстежувати їх та блокувати, пише Media Sapiens з посиланням на PC Magazine.

З усіх акаунтів, які були заблоковані у другій половині 2016 року, 75% акаунтів було виявлено власними фільтрами Twitter. Решта були заблоковані через скарги користувачів, в тому числі через запити від представників уряду.

У грудні 2016 року Facebook, Microsoft і Twitter об'єдналися для боротьби проти терористичного контенту. Компанії оголосили про створення спільної бази даних, де файлам будуть присвоєні «цифрові відбитки», що спростить процес блокування терористичного контенту при повторних завантаженнях. Також минулого року британський парламент розкритикував соцмережі за слабку боротьбу з екстремізмом.
