У середу, 26 травня, в Сирії відбуваються президентські вибори - другі з початку війни 10 років тому, передає ВВС.

Як повідомляється, виборчі дільниці відкрилися в усіх провінціях країни.

Сирійський президент Башар Асад беззмінно керує країною понад два десятки років. За час війни лояльні йому спецслужби затримали, піддали тортурам або стратам без суду тисячі активістів опозиції.

На виборах з Асадом змагаються колишній депутат від партії соціалістів-юніоністів Абдалла Саллюм Абдалла і представник патріотичної опозиції Махмуд Ахмед Мураї.

Однак мало хто зі спостерігачів сумнівається в тому, що чинний президент буде переобраний на четвертий термін.

Право голосу мають більш як 18 млн громадян Сирії, зокрема виборці, які зареєстровані за кордоном. Вони можуть проголосувати на 12 102 дільницях, повідомляє агентство SANA.

У Дамаску не виключають, що терористи можуть здійснити збройні вилазки, щоб зірвати голосування. З цієї причини сирійська влада вжила додаткових заходів, щоб забезпечити охорону на виборчих дільницях.
