Глава католицького Мальтійського ордена пішов у відставку після гострої суперечки з Ватиканом у зв'язку з безкоштовними презервативами, пише Главком з посиланням на британська газета The Guardian.

Як повідомляє видання, 67-річний великий магістр Метью Фестінг «пішов у відставку після того, як Папа попросив його про це на зустрічі у вівторок». Водночас великі магістри Мальтійського ордена, заснованого в XI столітті, «зазвичай залишаються на цій посаді довічно».

«Фестінг і Ватикан виявились втягнутими у сварку відтоді, як одного з високопоставлених лицарів ордена, великого канцлера Альбрехта Фрайхерра фон Боуследже, було усунуто від посади за те, що він допустив роздачу презервативів у рамках благодійного проекту для бідняків у Бірмі», – йдеться в статті. Боуследже звернувся до Папи, а той «призначив комісію з п'яти членів, яка мала розібратися в незвичайних обставинах звільнення»

«Британець Фестінг засудив папську комісію як втручання в суверенні справи ордена, звинуватив її членів у наявності у них конфлікту інтересів і, кинувши виклик, заснував свою власну внутрішню комісію», – пише видання.

Як відомо, церква не дозволяє використання презервативів, заявляючи, що стриманість і моногамія в гетеросексуальному шлюбі – найкращий спосіб зупинити поширення СНІДу.
