Нагадаємо, в п'ятницю, 7 квітня, влада Венесуели видала 15-літню заборону на здійснення політичної діяльності одного з лідерів опозиції, губернатора штату Міранда Енріке Каприлесу. Згодом Капрілес закликав своїх прихильників вийти на нові протести проти рішення влади заборонити йому політичну діяльність на 15 років.

Раніше опозиція влаштувала масові демонстрації на вулицях Каракаса. Поліція застосувала для розгону демонстрантів сльозогінний газ і водомети. За словами Хуліо Борхеса, спікера контрольованої опозицією Національної асамблеї, тоді постраждало щонайменше 50 осіб.

Приводом для акцій протесту стало рішення Верховного суду, який наділив президента Ніколаса Мадуро повноваженнями діяти фактично в обхід парламенту, а також оголосив про те, що бере на себе функції Національної асамблеї. Пізніше вищий судовий орган послухав заклик Ради безпеки країни і переглянув рішення, що стосується виконання ним парламентських функцій.

Зазначимо, зараз Венесуела знаходиться в глибокій економічній кризі з часів різкого падіння світових цін на нафту, що призвело до дефіциту продовольства та гіперінфляції.
