Виборча комісія Афганістану призначила парламентські вибори, проведення яких довго переносили, на 15 жовтня.

За словами голови комісії Ахмада Юсуфа Нурістані, голосування зможе відбутися вчасно, якщо уряд забезпечить відповідний бюджет, гарантує безпеку кандидатів, працівників виборчих комісій і виборчих скриньок.

П’ятирічний термін повноважень парламенту Афганістану закінчився в червні минулого року, але вибори відкладали з міркувань безпеки і розбіжностей з приводу того, як гарантувати чесне голосування після суперечок довкола президентських виборів 2014 року.

Президент Афганістану Ашраф Гані в 2015 році видав розпорядження, яким розширив повноваження парламенту до проведення нових виборів. Критики цього розпорядження заявляли про його незаконність.
