Суд у Баку визнав винною азербайджанську журналістку-розслідувача Хадіджу Ісмаїлову і засудив її до 7,5 року ув’язнення, повідомляє Радіо Свобода.

Журналістку, яка співпрацює з Радіо Свобода, звинувачували у наклепі, ухиленні від сплати податків, незаконній підприємницькій діяльності і зловживанні владою. Вона всі звинувачення відкидає, заявляючи, що вони політично мотивовані і викликані спробами помститися за її репортажі про корупцію у вищих ешелонах влади Азербайджану

31 серпня суддя перервав останнє слово Ісмаїлової, коли журналістка згадала ім’я президента Азербайджану Ільгама Алієва. Із проханням до судді зупинити промову звернувся прокурор.

Арешт Ісмаїлової понад вісім місяців тому викликав широке засудження з боку міжнародних правозахисників і західних урядів.

У серпні прокурор вимагав для журналістки дев’яти років позбавлення волі.
