Немецкая медиакомпания Deutsche Welle в апреле собирается запустить новый мультимедийный сервис на английском языке под названием DWNews. Президент Deutsche Welle Питер Лимбург сообщил The Wall Street Journal, что новый сервис разработан для того, чтобы "бросить вызов пропаганде Президента России Владимира Путина",сообщает РБК

Издание напоминает, что Россия запустила вещание на английском и немецком языках своего телеканала Russia Today по всей Европе. "С помощью своих СМИ Москва критикует то, как западные СМИ освещают кризис в Восточной Европе, и обвиняют США в военной вовлеченности в конфликт в регионе", - отмечает WSJ.

Издание уточняет, что правительство канцлера Ангелы Меркель отводит Deutsche Welle и его новому сервису DWNews ведущую роль в борьбе с российской пропагандой. В этом году немецкое правительство увеличило годовой бюджет Deutsche Welle более чем на 9,3%, до 294 млн евро(332 млн долл.), замечают авторы статьи.

У инициативы запустить новый англоязычный сервис нашлись противники как среди сотрудников Deutsche Welle, так и среди оппозиционных политиков. "Я не хочу видеть Deutsche Welle рупором немецкого министерства иностранных дел", - цитирует издание депутата оппозиционной левой партии Die Linke Харальда Петцольда.
