У неділю, 17 січня, в Україні вперше оберуть старосту. Вибори відбудуться у селищі Ірдинь Черкаської області, що входить до складу Білозірської об'єднаної територіальної громади. Про це повідомляє громадська організація Комітет виборців України.

Черкаська РДА повідомила, що на посаду старости претендують 2 кандидати. Кількість виборців в селищі – 683 особи.

24 січня в Україні відбудуться вибори ще 30 старост. У Хмельницькій області буде обрано 13 старост, у Черкаській області – 5 старост, у Запорізькій та Рівненській областях – по 6 старост.

Інститут старост було впроваджено із прийняттям Закону "Про добровільне об'єднання територіальних громад". Старости обираються за рішенням місцевої ради у селах та селищах об'єднаної територіальної громади за винятком її адміністративного центру.

Першу об'єднану територіальну громаду зареєстрували на Дніпропетровщині 11 листопада 2015 року. Загалом, за словами президента, з понад шести тисяч громад шляхом об'єднання утвориться 883 громади.
