Вестер Лі Фланаган, який застрелив у прямому ефірі кореспондента і оператора каналу WDBJ7 у штаті Вірджинія і згодом помер після спроби самогубства, відправив лист по факсу на телеканал ABC News, в якому пояснив мотиви свого вчинку, повідомляє ВВС.

У 23-сторінковому посланні Фланаган описує все, що його не влаштовувало в житті, та зазначає, що жив "як на пороховій бочці".

Він пише, що його обурювала расова дискримінація в США. Він сам, за його словами, неодноразово стикався з дискримінацією одразу за кількома ознаками - через те, що був чорношкірим і геєм.

Фланаган - колишній співробітник телекомпанії WDBJ7, якого нещодавно звільнили, також написав, що зазнавав утисків на роботі.

За його словами, він вбив журналіста і оператора каналу, щоб помститися за стрілянину 17 червня в афроамериканській церкві в Чарльстоні, де жертвами нападу стали дев'ятеро людей.

Як писав PRпортал, 24-річна репортер Елісон Паркер і 27-річний оператор Адам Уард були вбиті під час інтерв'ю в місті Монета.

Фланаган після стрілянини намагався застрелитися у своєму автомобілі, але вижив. Його доставили в лікарню, але врятувати не вдалося.
