Ліберальна партія Канади прем'єр-міністра Джастінв Трюдо перемогла на позачергових парламентських виборах, але не здобула абсолютної більшості.

Ліберали отримують 158 місць у парламенті з загальної кількості у 338 мандатів.

Для абсолютної більшості партії Трюдо необхідно було здобути щонайменше 170 мандатів. Другою стала Консервативна партія, яка здобула 117 мандатів.

Лідер консерваторів Ерін О'Тул вже визнав поразку та привітав Трюдо з перемогою.

Трюдо у своєму виступі визнав, що не досяг своєї мети отримати абсолютну більшість у парламенті, але заявив, що результат виборів дав йому чіткий мандат для формування уряду. З 2015 року Трюдо є прем'єром Канади, але останні два роки він очолював уряд меншості.

Він вирішив оголосити дострокові вибори після того, як опозиційні законодавці заблокували його бюджет та інші законопроекти.

Втім, результати виборів свідчать, що у Канаді знову буде уряд меншості, а партії Трюдо покладатися на опозиційні партії, такі як ліва Нова демократична партія, щоб приймати закони.
