Австралійська Пірникоза велика стала переможцем конкурсу “Птах століття” від новозеландського фонду Forest & Bird. Цей вид починав як аутсайдер, але в певний момент його підтримав навіть комік телеведучий Джон Олівер. Про це повідомляє UPI.

Переможця конкурсу оголосили у середу, 15 листопада. Птаха століття у Новій Зеландії обирають щороку, голосування триває два тижні. 

Цього року із оголошеннями результатів затрималися на два дні, оскільки голосування онлайн було таким масштабним, що зламало систему підрахунку. Винуватцем цього став комік Джон Олівер.

Під час голосування, яке відбувалося 5 листопада у знаменитому шоу Last Week Tonight на НВО його ведучий Олівер підтримав пірникіз.

“Жодна пташка на Землі не заслуговує звання “Птаха століття”, ніж ця. Це дивакуваті пташки, які блюють і носять пістряву зачіску маллет на голові. Як це все може не подобатися?” – пожартував Олівер. 

Пірникози ковтають власне пір’я, щоб викликати блювання – таким чином вони чистять себе від паразитів. 

Олівер призначав себе офіційним керівником кампанії пірникіз. Кампанія включала скупку рекламних банерів у Новій Зеландії, Японії, Франції, Великобританії, Індії та американському штаті Вісконсін. Літак із банером кампанії на підтримку пірникіз також пролетів над пляжами Ріо-де-Жанейро в Бразилії.

Загалом пірникози набрали 290 374 із понад 300 тис. голосів загалом, повідомляє Forest and Bird.
