Уряд Великої Британії планує виділяти до 85 млн фунтів на рік (майже 130 млн доларів) спеціального фінансування на розвиток Всесвітньої служби ВВС. Це допоможе розширити діяльність ВВС у Росії, Північній Кореї, на Близькому Сході і в Африці.

Таке фінансування має допомогти збільшити аудиторію ВВС до півмільярда людей і «розширити доступ до новин та інформації».

Генеральний директор ВВС Тоні Холл вже заявив, що він вітає це рішення.

Уряд спочатку виділить 34 млн фунтів (понад 51,5 млн доларів) у період 2016-2017, а потім, починаючи з 2017-2018, 85 млн фунтів на рік на ТБ, онлайн та радіо.

Наступний перегляд фінансування відбудеться у 2020 році.

Зараз Всесвітня служба ВВС фінансується за рахунок сплати телевізійних зборів від населення.

Аудиторія ВВС наразі складає 308 млн людей, досягти аудиторії у 500 млн ВВС планує до 2022 року.
