Вещательная корпорация "Би-би-си" в ближайшее время планирует создать круглосуточный новостной телеканал, который заменит собой два действующих - BBC News и BBC World News. Об этом сообщает во вторник газета Guardian со ссылкой на сотрудников медиагиганта.

Окончательное решение на этот счет совет директоров примет в июле. Главной причиной подобного шага является оптимизация расходов корпорации. Ранее "Би-би-си" проинформировала о планах сэкономить в ближайшее время £15 млн ($21 млн), что подразумевает закрытие целого ряда проектов и интернет-сайтов, в том числе популярного портала о кулинарии BBC Food.

По данным британских СМИ, один лишь телеканал BBC News обходится ежегодно медиагиганту почти в £63 млн ($89 млн). При этом годовой бюджет вещательной корпорации оценивается на уровне £125 млн фунтов ($177 млн).

В последние годы "Би-би-си" сталкивалась со все более серьезными финансовыми проблемами, в результате чего возникла необходимость экономии средств. С этой целью еще в 2011 году были проведены сокращения в структуре Всемирной службы вещательной корпорации. В частности, было прекращено эфирное вещание ее Русской службы, которая теперь представлена только в интернете.
