Поширення через соціальні мережі численної дезінформації спонукало одне з найбільших світових інформаційних агентств – ВВС – почати перевірку підозрілих фактів, - про це повідомляє PRпортал з посиланням на The Gardian.

Так, очільник новинного агентства ВВС Джеймс Хардінг розповів власним співробітникам про те, що стурбованість як політиків, так і пересічних громадян численними фактами дезінформації та перекручуваннями в Інтернеті не може не турбувати. Особливо стрімким таке зростання було напередодні референдуму за вихід Великобританії з Європейського Союзу та виборів у Сполучених Штатах Америки. За його словами, настав час для того, щоб стати силою у битві з брехнею, перекручуваннями і маніпуляціями.

Відтак, у складі ВВС буде створено на постійній основі підрозділ Reality Check – його завданням стане перевірка найбільш популярних повідомлень в Facebook, Instagram та інших соціальних медіа. За словами Хардінга, «ВВС зараз не може редагувати Інтернет і те, що в ньому знаходиться, але ми можемо перевірити певну частину найбільш популярних новин». ВВС наголосили, що хочуть зробити сервіс перевірки новин дуже популярним, а тому просуватимуть його у всіх можливих форматах – в Інтернеті, телебаченні та радіо.
