Бывший мэр города Давао, сторонник жесткого курса в борьбе с преступностью Родриго Дутерте заявил о своей победе на президентских выборах на Филиппинах, пишет ВВС.

По итогам подсчета 90% бюллетеней, Дутерте набирает около 39% голосов. За ним следует Мануэль Роксас с предварительным результатом 23%.

Победитель выборов будет определен простым большинством голосов.

Конституция Филиппин ограничивает полномочия президента одним шестилетним сроком. Сейчас подходит к концу срок полномочий нынешнего президента Бенигно Акино.

В ходе предвыборной кампании он пытался объединить нескольких кандидатов против Дутерте. По словам Акино, победа Дутерте приведет к возвращению страны к диктатуре.

В своей кампании Родриго Дутерте делал акцент на борьбе с коррупцией и преступностью. Он также известен рядом громких заявлений, например обещанием жестоко разделаться с преступниками, невзирая на права человека.

Дутерте, которого также называют "Каратель", занимал должность мэра Давао более 20 лет.

Помимо президентских выборов, в стране также проходят выборы в сенат и в местные органы власти.

Голосование проходит в условиях повышенных мер безопасности. Для обеспечения порядка мобилизованы более 100 тысяч полицейских по всей стране.
