Ежедневная американская деловая газета The Wall Street Journal решила закрыть возможность чтения статей через Google, сообщает проект Media and Journalism.

Ранее платные статьи Wall Street Journal можно было читать, забив заголовок в поисковик Google (это стандартная его функция, которая позволяет издателям настраивать строгость допуска пользователей из поисковиков).

Издание идет на такой шаг, чтобы попытаться достичь поставленной цели в 3 млн подписчиков на саму газету и другие продукты своего издателя Dow Jones. WSJ сначала опробовала решение на 40% аудитории, а затем отключила четыре рубрики от чтения через Google. Как результат - рост подписок на 86%.

Вместе с тем видео, рекламные расценки на которое выше, по-прежнему останется доступно бесплатно с целью увеличения аудитории.

Отметим, согласно последнему финансовому отчету News Corp., у The Wall Street Journal уже 2,1 млн подписчиков и впервые свыше половины из них «цифровые». За последние три месяца 2016 года газета привлекла 110 тыс. подписчиков. Она является одним из немногих изданий, которое больше зарабатывает на своих читателях, чем на рекламе.

Напомним, ранее стало известно, что The Wall Street Journal в рамках реорганизации закрывает отделения в Будапеште, Мадриде и Варшаве.
