Видеохостинговая компания YouTube за последний год выплатила более $1 млрд музыкальным компаниям от продажи рекламы, говорится в официальном блоге YouTube.

Сообщение появилось на фоне напряженных переговоров YouTube с различными музыкальными лейблами, которые выразили недовольство малыми выплатами за лицензирование и использование их композиций, сообщает Financial Times. Крупные музыкальные лейблы и независимые музыканты предпочитают получать выплаты от подписок, которые меньше зависят от изменений на мировом рынке рекламы.

На данный момент YouTube рассматривает возможность одновременно включить рекламу и подписку в единую бизнес-модель для музыки. В будущем музыка может «стать чем-то вроде телевидения, где подписки и реклама приносят примерно равное количество прибыли», сказал директор по глобальному развитию Роберт Кайнкл (Robert Kyncl).

YouTube была основана в 2005 году как проект, предоставляющий пользователям услуги хранения, доставки, показа и монетизации видео. Сегодня YouTube является крупнейшим видео- и музыкальным стриминговым сервисом, а количество слушателей превысило количество слушателей Spotify и Apple Music.
