Газету The Australian звинуватили в расизмі за карикатуру, яка зображує бідних індусів, що поїдають панелі сонячних батарей.

Карикатуру намалював відомий в Австралії карикатурист Білл Лік. Картинка стала його реакцією на кліматичний саміт ООН, який проходив у Парижі, повідомляє Media Sapiens

На його малюнку зображені коробки з панелями для сонячних батарей, які Індії надіслали з ООН для боротьби зі зниженням викидів парникових газів. Біля них карикатурист зобразив кількох бідних індусів, які обурюються тим, що ці панелі виявились неїстівними.

Індія знаходиться на четвертому місці серед країн світу за обсягами викидів парникових газів.

Малюнок вже викликав обурення в Індії. Також карикатуру критикують і в самій Австралії.

«Ця карикатура недвозначно расистська, вона зображує базові стереотипи про третій світ, недорозвинутих людей, які не знають, що робити з технологією», - сказала The Guardian ад'юнкт-професор з соціології доцент Університету Маккуорі Аманда Вайз. На її думку, подібна карикатура ніколи б не з'явилася на сторінках видань у США, Великій Британії чи Канаді.
