Парламент Непала избрал нового президента. Впервые в истории страны им стала женщина, вице-президент правящей Коммунистической партии Непала Бидхиа Бхандари. Об этом сообщает «РБК-Украина» со ссылкой на The Hindu.

Ее кандидатуру поддержали 327 парламентариев. Соперник Бхандари, Кул Бахадур Гурунг, получил 214 голосов.

На этой должности Бхандари сменит главу государства Рама Барана Ядава, который занимал пост президента с 2008 года.

Должность президента в Непале является церемониальной.
