Ним стала представник Естонії в Європейській лічильній комісії Керсті Кальюлайд. Представник Естонії в Європейській лічильній комісії Керсті Кальюлайд обрано президентом країни.

В ході голосування в Рійгікогу (парламенті країни) Кальюлайд отримала підтримку 81 депутатів з 101. Для затвердження на пост їй необхідно було набрати не менше 68 голосів. Вибори Кальюлайд проходили на безальтернативній основі.

Кальюлайд стала кандидатом в президенти після того, як у вересні два тури голосування не принесли результату: ніхто з учасників в них кандидатів не набрав більше половини голосів у Рійгікогу, як цього вимагає законодавство. Після цього кандидати відмовилися від участі у виборах.

В Естонії президент країни виконує, в основному, представницькі функції і володіє набагато меншими повноваженнями, ніж прем'єр-міністр. Кальюлайд стала п'ятим президентом Естонії і першою жінкою на цій посаді.
