Журналіст розкритикував владу після того, як Генеральний прокурор Ерік Холдер (Eric Holder) у вівторок виступив у Національному прес-клубі у Вашингтоні на тему проблеми зливу інформації,повідомляє Media Sapiens

Він висловився про те, що витоки даних можуть вчинити більше зла, ніж добра національній безпеці.

Прокурор звернувся до представників медіа із запитанням, чи розмірковують вони над доцільністю публікації інформації про стеження. На його думку, медійники повинні враховувати, чи не матиме оприлюднення відомостей негативного впливу для національної безпеки держави.

Джеймс Райзен розкритикував цю тезу, назвавши у своєму дописі у Твіттері генпрокурора «головним національним службовцем з питань цензури». Він також висловив думку, що Холдер таким чином схвалює арешти журналістів у світі.

Журналіст також повторив свою фразу, про те, що адміністрація Обами є найбільшим ворогом свободи преси цього покоління.

Нагадаємо, що Джеймс Райзен тривалий час є фігурантом судової справи. Від нього вимагали виказати джерела інформації для написання книги «Держава війни» (State of War) про операцію ЦРУ в Ірані. Вона вийшла друком 2006 року і описує зусилля ЦРУ з метою зірвати ядерну програму в Ірані. Це відбувалося у час правління екс-президента США Джорджа Буша (George W. Bush).

Раніше на захист журналіста стали понад 100 тисяч осіб.
