Тлумачний словник англійської мови Merriam-Webster поповнився ще на 700 нових слів. Серед них - "тверк", "мем", "фотобомба", "емодзі" і абревіатура WTF. Про це повідомляє УНІАН

Також були додані близько 700 нових значень в існуючі статті та 3200 прикладів для поліпшення розуміння слів, а 200 найпопулярніших статей відновили і розширили.

Іменник twerk (тверк) позначає танець, в якому активно використовуються сідниці, стегна, живіт і руки, а інші частини тіла залишаються цілком нерухомими.

Еmoji (емодзі) – це "маленьке зображення, символ або іконка, що додається в текст повідомлення в електронних комунікаціях (СМС, e-mail або соцмережах), щоб висловити ставлення автора, зробити повідомлення живим без слів".

Слово meme (мем) у першому значенні позначає стиль або поведінку між членами певної культури, у другому – об'єкт, що привертає увагу і активно поширюється в соціальних мережах.

Дієслово photobomb (фотобомбити) означає несподівану поява у вигляді жарту когось або чогось на фотографії в момент, коли її роблять.

Також словник поповнився абревіатурами "WTF" (What the fuck, "Якого біса?") і "FWIW" (For what it's worth, "якщо це має якесь значення").

Словник Merriam-Webster веде свою історію з XIX століття. У цьому словнику вперше було вказано на відмінності американського і британського варіантів англійської мови.
