Организация WikiLeaks поздравила жителей России с католическим Рождеством. Сообщение с поздравлением 25 декабря было размещено в официальном твиттере сайта утечек.

«С Рождеством Христовым русского народа; мы благодарим их за их солидарность и щедрость в этом году», — говорится в опубликованном WikiLeaks посте. За несколько часов с момента публикации твит собрал более 80 ретвитов и около 25 раз был занесен пользователями соцсети в избранное, пишет Lenta.ru.

При этом некоторые из прокомментировавших сообщение пользователей заметили, что поздравление сделано WikiLeaks не совсем своевременно. «Рановато на пару недель. Православное Рождество 7 января. Но все равно приятно», — написал один из пользователей.

Кроме твита на русском в микроблоге WikiLeaks появилось поздравление на английском (адресованное жителям США), а также пост на испанском.

Специализирующаяся на публикации секретных документов организация WikiLeaks была основана в 2006 году. На аккаунт организации в соцсети Twitter подписаны более двух миллионов пользователей. Финансирование деятельности WikiLeaks осуществляется за счет частных пожертвований.

В 2010 году, благодаря деятельности WikiLeaks и ее основателя Джулиана Ассанжа, в прессу попали сведения о преступлениях, совершенных вооруженными силами США во время операций в Ираке и Афганистане. Власти США обвиняют WikiLeaks в подрыве национальной безопасности и разглашении государственных тайн. Один из информаторов организации, рядовой американской армии Брэдли (Челси) Мэннинг, в августе был приговорен судом к 35 годам тюремного заключения.
