Патріарх РПЦ Кирил на недільній проповіді заявив, що жертва "при виконанні військового обов'язку" "змиває всі гріхи".

Пряма мова Кирила: "Ми знаємо, що сьогодні багато хто гине на полях міжусобної брані. Церква молиться про те, щоб брань ця закінчилася якнайшвидше, щоб якнайменше братів убили один одного в цій братовбивчій війні.

І водночас Церква усвідомлює, що якщо хтось, спонукуваний почуттям обов'язку, необхідністю виконати присягу, залишається вірним своєму покликанню і гине при виконанні військового обов'язку, то він, безсумнівно, здійснює діяння, рівносильне жертві. Він себе приносить у жертву за інших. І тому віримо, що ця жертва змиває всі гріхи, які людина зробила".
