Американське видання The New York Times опублікувало анонс кулінарної статті, де назвали вареники “руськими пирогами”.

Користувачів обурило, що українські вареники назвали “руськими”:

“Це українські вареники, а не “руські пироги”. Так само, як і борщ – цілком українська страва”.

“Продовжуйте, і бургер скоро теж буде “руським””.

“Пироги – це польська страва. А на фото – українські вареники. Обидва абсолютно НЕ руські! І, до речі, NYT це не перший раз, коли ви робите цю помилку. Можливо, вам краще перевіряти інформацію, яку ви публікуєте?”

Євген Клопотенко також відреагував на допис NYT: “”Руські пироги” походить від слова Русь (Київська Русь – сучасна Україна). Це українська національна страва. Але інша справа назва “Росія”, бо вони її взяли від слова русь, тож вкрали в українців (як і багато іншого вкрали, це їхня національна традиція)”.
