29 листопада Франк-Вальтер Штайнмаєр (той самий, у якого був "план") прилетів у Катар. Збирався просити, аби місцевий емір вплинув на ХАМАС, і терористи звільнили заручників. 

Так вийшло, що літак із німецьким лідером прибув у Доху трохи раніше, ніж планували. Тож до трапу не вийшов ніхто із держчиновників. Взагалі. Можливо, вони очікували, що німці вирішать, що нікого нема вдома і полетять? Ми не знаємо. 

Дружина Штайнмаєра Ельке Бюденбендер і частина його делегації спустилися з літака, а сам президент Німеччини залишився стояти нагорі.

У відповідь на дзвінок глави протокольної служби повідомили, що "президент мав пити чай в аеропорту, щоб вбити час", проте Штайнмаєр вважав за краще чекати на вершині трапа.

Але попри все зустріч таки відбулася. 

Переговори між президентом Німеччини і еміром Катару тривали близько півтори години, однак по їх завершенні Аль Тані відмовився від спільної пресконференції або заяви.

"Я сподіваюся, що ми отримаємо хороші новини в найближчі кілька днів", – сказав Штайнмаєр після зустрічі.

Він висловив "особливу подяку еміру за те, що Катар використовує свій вплив на ХАМАС".
