Згідно з рішенням судді, Facebook має відповісти на колективний позов про порушення приватності користувачів.

Позов стосувався сканування повідомлень користувачів у рекламних цілях.

Окружний суддя в Окленді (Каліфорнія) Філліс Гамільтон (Phyllis Hamilton) відхилила деякі вимоги щодо соцмережі. Водночас вона відмовилася цілком відхилити позов проти компанії,повідомляє Media Sapiens

Facebook твердив, що сканування повідомлень користувачів підпадає під виняткову норму Федерального закону про приватність електронної комунікації (Electronic Communications Privacy Act). Вона стосується перехоплень інформації провайдерами в порядку звичайного ведення бізнесу.

Однак суддя Гамільтон сказала, що Facebook «не надав достатніх пояснень стосовно того, як суперечлива практика стосується "звичайного ведення її бізнесу"».

Ні Facebook, ні юристи позивачів не прокоментували ситуацію, зазначає Reuters.

У судовому позові, що був поданий 2013 року, Facebook звинуватили у скануванні змісту приватних повідомлень на предмет наявності лінків на певні веб-сайти. Позивачі стверджували, що компанія отримувала цю інформацію з метою використання у цільовій рекламі. На їхню думку, така практика є порушенням федерального законодавства, та законодавства штату Каліфорнія.
