Кореспондент The Los Angeles Times Сергій Лойко і його колежанка Керол Вільямс (Carol Williams) отримали престижну американську нагороду 02 The Bob Considine Award за серію репортажів «Україна: Нація, розірвана на частини» (Ukraine: A Nation Torn Apart), які були опубліковані у газеті у 2014 році. «Репортаж The Los Angeles Times з приводу українського конфлікту виділився серед інших своєю силою, достовірністю, оригінальністю, глибиною і тонкістю інтерпретації, його стилем, який чіляє і перетворює кожну історію в захоплюючий матеріал. Інтимність деталей - розбите скло терміналу аеропорту, «магічний» шолом, дірка від кулі, описана до останнього міліметра, миниавтобус з «пекла» - поєднана з точним аналізом того, як економічні фактори порушили течію повсякденного життя людей. Сміливість репортера дозволила нам побачити місця, яких ми ніколи раніше не бачили», - йдеться у констатуючій частині премії Сергія Лойка і Керол Вільямс.
