Німецький телеканал ARD показав колаж з канцлером Ангелою Меркель в хіджабі у випуску програми "Репортаж з Берліна" під час обговорення теми квот на розміщення біженців.

Користувачі соціальних мереж зазначили, що аналогічні колажі з Меркель використовує антиисламское рух "Пегида", яке організовувало багатотисячні протести проти мігрантів. Зображення назвали "жахливим і маніпулятивним".

Телеканал пояснив своє рішення розмістити образ Меркель в хіджабі прагненням "привернути увагу людей".

"Образ був задуманий як сатира, а свобода вираження думок, свобода преси і рівність - це досягнення нашого західного суспільства", - йдеться в заяві телеканалу.

Скандал навколо ARD розгорівся на фоні посилення напруги в Німеччині навколо питання імміграції. Раніше керівництво країни заявило, що очікує прийняти до 800 тисяч біженців в цьому році.
