Руководство издательской группы ESI Media приняло решение полностью отказаться от бумажного издания газет Independent и Independent on Sunday и перевести их в электронный формат.

Последняя бумажная версия Independent выйдет 26 марта, а последняя воскресная версия газеты - 20 марта, пишет Украинская правда

"Это решение сохранит бренд Independent и позволит нам продолжить инвестировать в высококачественное содержание, которое привлекает все больше читателей на наши онлайн-сервисы", - заявил владелец ESI Media Евгений Лебедев.

В ESI Media также подтвердили, что издание i (дешевый вариант Independent, нацеленный на более молодую аудиторию) будет продано медиагруппе Johnston Press примерно за 24 млн фунтов стерлингов в том случае, если акционеры Johnston Press одобрят сделку.

Британские СМИ отмечают, что из 150 сотрудников Independent в штате останутся только 25 человек.

Independent была основана в 1986 году. В пиковый период ее тираж достигал 400 тыс., однако сейчас он составляет чуть более 40 тыс. экземпляров.

Газета не продается, а распространяется бесплатно, поскольку издание получает прибыль за счет размещения рекламы.
