Ранее Трамп пожаловался на то, что две из трех серий дебатов совпадают по времени с играми Национальной футбольной лиги США, и это может снизить их популярность у телезрителей.

Как отметил глава кампании Клинтон Джон Подеста, пока неясно, пытается ли Трамп "избежать дебатов или просто заигрывает с прессой, чтобы создать больше драматизма".

Тем временем сенатор-республиканец от штата Мэн Сьюзан Коллинз заявила, что не намерена голосовать за Трампа на выборах в ноябре.

"Дональд Трамп не отражает исторических ценностей республиканцев, а также широкой подход к управлению, который необходим для преодоления разногласий в нашей стране", - говорится в колонке Коллинз в газете Washington Post.

Накануне 50 экспертов Республиканской партии США по вопросам безопасности подписали открытое письмо, в котором подчеркивается, что Трамп может стать "самым безрассудным" президентом в истории страны.
