Группа из 14 стран Южной Америки призвала Венесуэлу провести выборы и освободить политических заключенных. Совместное заявление стран оставляет открытым вопрос приостановления членства Венесуэлы в Организации американских стран (ОАС). Об этом сообщает Reuters.

По словам главы МИД Мексики Луиса Видегарая, заявление призвано направить Венесуэлу на восстановление демократии, начать диалог и разрешить кризис в стране. Исключение Венесуэлы из ОАС — это крайняя мера, которая не будет применяться, пока не иссякнут дипломатические меры, отметил он.

В то же время группа стран также призвала Венесуэлу признать легитимность Национального собрания, которое президент Николас Мадуро игнорирует с того момента, как в 2015 году в парламенте получила большинство оппозиция. Среди стран, составивших заявление, США, Бразилия, Мексика и Канада.

В марте генеральный секретарь ОАС Луис Альмагро заявил, что правительство Венесуэлы является «диктаторским». Если Мадуро не проведет выборы, страна должна быть исключена из организации, говорил Альмагро.

Ранее глава МИД Венесуэлы Делси Родригес назвала президента Перу Педру Кучински «собакой и трусом».
