Україна піднялася на п'ять позицій, до 102-го місця в рейтингу свободи преси міжнародної організації "Репортери без кордонів". Очолили рейтинг Норвегія, Швеція та Фінляндія завдяки поліпшенню ліберального доступу до публічної інформації.

 
Також "Репортери без кордонів" відзначили зниження свободи преси в декількох демократичних країнах. Так, США опустилися на дві позиції через збільшення кількості розслідувань проти журналістів і затримань співробітників ЗМІ. Польща під час правління правоконсерваторів утратила сім позицій, посівши 54 місце. Погіршилася ситуація зі свободою преси у Великобританії (40 місце), Нідерландах (5 місце) і Канаді (22 місце). Через придушення опозиційних ЗМІ Росія залишилася на 148-му місці.
 
Як пояснила  DW прес-секретар "Репортерів без кордонів" Ульріке Груска, покращення позицій України пояснюється, зокрема, зменшенням насильства проти журналістів.
 
"Репортери без кордонів" розраховують індекс свободи ЗМІ на підставі ряду параметрів, таких як різноманітність медіа, їх незалежність, умови роботи журналістів, самоцензура, правовий захист та інституційна прозорість.
