У березні цього року Google News Lab та Knight Foundation запустили відкритий конкурс ідей Journalism 360 Challenge щодо використання віртуальної реальності в галузі журналістики, пише Media Sapiens
 

Організатори отримали 800 заявок з різних куточків світу, з яких вони обрали 11 переможців. Серед них - й український стартап New Cave Media, який отримає грант в $20 000 на розробку журналістського VR-додатку.

Додаток застосовуватиме фотограмметрію - використання знімків для вимірювання та картування об'єктів - й таким чином відтворюватиме місця, в яких відбувалися важливі події та які опинилися в центрі уваги медіа. Наприклад, стихійні лиха чи масові стрілянини. Додаток за допомогою голосу та архівних кадрів розповідатиме, що саме трапилося в тому чи іншому місці.

Загалом Google News Lab та Knight Foundation виділили $285 000 в рамках Journalism 360 Challenge на розвиток нових проектів та експериментів із технологією віртуальної реальності. Також серед переможців є проекти від Університету Британської Колумбії, Міського університету Нью-Йорку, газети The Washington Post та інших організацій.

MediaSapiens раніше вже писав про проект New Cave Media, який запустився наприкінці березня 2017 року. За допомогою технології 360° його засновники створюють як журналістські, так і комерційні сферичні історії та 3D-тури.
