Президент Венесуэлы Николас Мадуро заявил в среду, что в 2018 году в стране пройдут выборы президента в соответствии с требованиями конституции.

«Будет ли дождь, гром или молнии, но в 2018 году мы идем к президентским выборам, как велит наша конституция, и я верю в голос народа, в его доверие. Верю в демократию и свободу как высшую ценность нашей родины», — сказал глава государства на встрече с руководством вооруженных сил страны, транслировавшейся в социальных сетях.

Мадуро стал президентом Венесуэлы по итогам выборов в апреле 2013 года, немного опередив кандидата от оппозиции Энрике Каприлеса. Выборы были назначены в связи со смертью президента Уго Чавеса, скончавшегося в марте 2013 года от последствий ракового заболевания.
