Вопреки распространенному мнению, замораживание конфликта на востоке Украины сыграет на руку процессу интеграции страны в Европу, считают западные аналитики. В западных СМИ появилась информация, что губернатор Одесской области Михаил Саакашвили уже готовиться к президентским выборам. Правда не совсем ясно, как это будет согласовываться с действующей Конституцией Украины, согласно которой кандидат в президенты должен проживать в Украине последние десять лет. Западные СМИ осветили создание Николаем Азаровым «Комитета спасения Украины». Кроме высокопарных слов, обвинений действующей власти и амбициозных претензий, ничем больше это событие не отличилось, уверены западные журналисты.
Согласно новым прогнозам МВФ, состояние российской экономики намного хуже, чем предполагалось прежде. Падения цены на нефть, в купе с введенными санкциями за аннексию Крыма, нанесли сокрушительный ущерб отсталой постсоветской системе производственных отношений в РФ.

В иностранной прессе с вниманием отнеслись к информации о создании «ополченцами» Донбасса, при участии российских ядерщиков, «грязной бомбы». Перспектива того, что российские террористы овладеют оружием куда более опасным, чем злосчастный «Бук», никого не оставляет равнодушным. Глава украинского МИДа призвал российскую сторону к «реальному перемирию», чтобы положить конец кровопролитному противостоянию на востоке Украины.

К делу Надежды Савченко надежно прикован взгляд иностранных СМИ, которые готовятся освещать его даже при всех попытках российской стороны провести закрытое слушанье. Ни у кого не вызывает сомнения, что дело против украинской летчицы «шито белыми нитками», но как и у всех политических дел в России, его результат предопределен уже задолго до начала слушанья. Но защита Савченко намерена бороться до конца, исходя из самых пессимистичных прогнозов. Вторым событием дня стало расширение США своего списка индивидуальных санкции против приближенных к правительству России лиц, в Белом Доме настаивают, что нет никакой связи между вчерашним ветированием Россией в Совбезе резолюции по МН17 и новыми санкциями.

Россия все-таки заветировала в Совбезе проект резолюции о создании международного трибунала по сбитому в прошлом году боингу. Ход российской стороны был достаточно предсказуем и потому ни у кого не вызвал особого удивления. По мнению некоторых политиков, ветирование резолюции развязывает руки западным лидерам для использования других законных методов по привлечению к ответственности виновных в массовом убийстве 298 иностранных граждан.
