«Расползающейся оккупацией» назвали в иностранной прессе решение Южной Осетии провести по примеру Крыма «референдума» на присоединение к России. Поднятием южноосетинского вопроса и участием в сирийском конфликте, Москва делает все возможное, чтобы Украина исчезла с полос западных СМИ. Многие эксперты сходятся во мнении, что военная кампания в Украине была признана в Кремле провальной, и Россия в поиске путей для скорейшего выхода оттуда.

Отмена сепаратистами своих псевдовыборов, в сочетании с отводом войск с линии разграничения, может служить знаком готовности России к конструктивному диалогу, считают западные журналисты. В иностранной прессе также оценили «вежливый» отказ Александра Лукашенко от заманчивого предложения Владимира Путина построить в Белоруссии российскую военную базу. В условиях когда политическое влияние и экономическая мощь России уверенно идет на спад, белорусский лидер делает ставку на Запад. Делает это пока не явно, но уже прослеживаются четкие намеренья Лукашенко сохранить тенденцию в потеплении отношений с Европой.

И хотя с началом военной кампании России в Сирии, внимание западных журналистов переместилось на тот театр военных действий, украинский конфликт остается в поле зрения прессы. Пророссийские сепаратисты, следуя примеру украинской стороны, также начали вывод танков и другой бронетехники с линии разграничения. Только пока в ОБСЕ не могут сказать куда именно, но у них есть в планах провести полную инвентаризацию вооружения «ополченцев».

Отвод малокалиберных орудий и начало активных бомбардировок в Сирии, свидетельствует о решении Путина «закрыть» тему с Украиной, считают западные журналисты. Если предположения окажутся верными — российский лидер постарается сделать все возможное, чтобы поскорей забылось его поражение в Украине. Скандальный визит греческой делегации в Одессу может поднять на обсуждение в Европейском парламенте нарушение прав национальных меньшинств в Украине.

Западные эксперты заявляют, что эпидемия полиомиелита в Украине неизбежна и все, что можно сейчас сделать — это только снизить количество потенциальных жертв от заболевания. В западной прессе торжествуют — Украина пошла на попятную и отменила санкции против шестерых западных журналистов. И хоть еще около полусотни журналистов и блогеров продолжают оставаться в санкционном списке, ажиотаж вокруг темы нарушений свободы прессы в Украине, вероятней всего, пойдет на спад. Вторым событием может стать частичная отмена западных санкции против белорусского лидера Александра Лукашенко. Пока что информации об этом мало, но предпосылки к этому уже давно обсуждаются в прессе.
